At all times the CADCAM system knows and displays the state of remaining stock and can roll back the state of the stock if I want to insert a machining operation. Like with mill you pick a virtual machine up front that's tied to the machine controller. At any time you can see how your in process toolpaths will machine using both virtual machine simulation and part simulation.

Good user interface design would keep Operation Type in the Manager. Should the user wish to undock Operation Types from the Manager allow them to float the dialog.
