Hi Guys, can someone please explain why the 'look' of 2012 is significantly different to 2011 and if there is any way of fixing this.

OK - In 2012 the lines are often 'blurred'. For example , the line instead of being pure black and perhaps slight jagged as is shifts across pixels, is actually now grey on the edges, thin black in the middle then grey again on the other edge. This discolouration occurs throughout 2012 yet does not in 2011.

IMO the clear lines are essential in CAD as blurry static lines on ruin your eyes as well as reduce clarity.

This is 2011

This is 2012.

I get the impression I should be changing some graphic setting to get sharp clear lines back. An explanation would be useful.

I am also seeking an explanation of why the change to all grey transparency for background parts, shapes etc. when in sketch mode?

Colour is one of the essential tools in 3D modelling to help see the difference between parts. This has been taken away from us in the mode and I would like to know why?
Cheers

I'm not sure, but maybe this is helpful. Info on forums is often not so helpful but maybe this will be.

I think the blurr you are talking about is the software in conjunction with the Anti-Alias engine softening lines. This improved with the nVidia, 295.xx driver, lines became really clean, with the alias engine. This can be tweeked in various places with the nVidia driver tool, and in the software it appears. If you run nVidia that is. But I think you're talking about Aliasing of lines. Jaggies being removed seen as softening or blurring.

Okay, I noticed when I imported or opened an file from a previous version, 2012 took that "desktop" template with it. In that, it changes all the colors to the previous version template. I have not read in depth on template building, but I understand there is a chapter or two on this in one of the PDF training guides. I've been meaning to read, as I need a couple templates. You may have already found this for your self. But other than that "it" remains all 2012 features.

I think once you start using 2012, you will likely let go of the previous versions. I for the most part have. After a few hours with 2012 I found 2011, a bit cluncky. I do wish the mouse zoom had not changed. I liked the middle button hold and move mouse for fast smooth zoom. But there is probably a check box that I have not found or a way to set this in the configuration of buttons and layouts etc..

For me I am hoping some real work will be done on the use of video processing, for the CAM side. It is still so slow in solid verify mode, unless you are zoomed into the part. Zoom out for a macro view, you may get a crash or some sort of stall...

Good luck.

Thanks Jeff,
I have the latest nVidia running on my 8800GT card.
The problem is that until I get this sorted the display a really hard on the eyes. Blotchy is the best description.

SP1 is definitely a big improvement. Still there are little things that become big issues user side.

One issue I am having is that in assemblies with parts from other files, 2012 just cannot find them, or even retain the knowledge of where they are even after I manually point it. Save, re open and the links are missing again. It is CAD with Alzheimers.
A thought whilst I am typing this. I am wondering if it just the VX suffixed parts?
Cheers

I hope there is a SP2 because going in 13 without sorting the annoyances seems counter productive.

Hi, Paul

If you would like to change the sketch background, please change it from the configuration by following steps:
1) Utilities< Configuration
2) Go to the 'Color' tab
3) Find the 'Active color settings', and then change 'Ghosting' to different part, it is 'from part' in default

For the graphic issue, it is advised to upgrade to the latest driver, which could use more advanced API of NV. I appreciate that if you could send the file for us to check.

Certainly, we have plan to release SP2 before ZW3D 2013, Mold module could have some key updates.

Best regards
Colin
