Top-Down and Bottom-Up are the major assembly methods when doing assembly design. Most users know how to do Bottom-Up Assembly modeling as it is the most popular form of assembly modeling, however fewer fully understand Top-Down Assembly Modeling.

This topic will use to do detailed introduction in ZW3D to show how to do Top-Down Assembly Modeling, please reply your idea if you have more idea about this function.

Simple videos to show Top-Down and Bottom-up Assembly method in ZW3D

What is the Top Down Assembly Modeling?

In short, in the top down approach you have to create the blank assembly first and then you have to go on creating the sub-assemblies and parts in it. So, if the main assembly is at the top most level and the components are in bottom most level, then you are coming from top to bottom and it's top down assembly.

An excellent post.

Simple but critically important.

It's my opinion that every user of ZW3D should work through and fully understand this entire post (the 6 minute video helps a lot).

A complete understanding of this will make us better users and will contribute more to realizing just how powerful this software is.
