 SEEKING SAMPLE STEP ASSEMBLIES

Hello everybody

Please help us to improve VX.

We are working on improving VX's handling of STEP assemblies. The various CAD systems out there are all creating STEP files with their own "flavours" (yes, it is a standard format!).

One of the reasons why VX's IGES import is so reliable is that over time we have gathered a lot of information about the IGES "flavours" produced by other systems. The VX IGES importer is therefore knowledge-based, and thus able to import poorly written IGES files without the User even knowing there were some serious faults in the file.

The key to understanding the tiny differences of file description is to know exactly what the file is intended to be describing. The Eutopian scenario therefore is to have small example files that essentially describe exactly the same assembly. The attached file, "STEP_ASSY.zip" consists of a screenshot, three (individual) STEP Part Object Files and the original VX file used to create them. If you have access to another CAD system (perhaps you need to exchange STEP files with a supplier/customer) can you help us please by creating a STEP assembly as shown in the screenshot (2 plates fastened together with 4 nuts and Bolts), ideally using the files supplied. A STEP file often does not reveal the name of the system used to create it, so please name the file after the system used. For example, SolidWorks2006.stp, UGNX4.stp etc. It should not take more than 10 minutes to produce this assembly in any system. Email to me, chrisw@vx.com

Thank you!

We have enough assemblies for Mechanical Desktop.R7.0.43.0 and AutoCAD STEP 2000

Thanks, Still looking for assemblies from any other popular systems.

Note: 12.40 will now accept a STEP file with .step extension.

Do you need Pro/E, Solid Edge, or Cimitron?
