On the vx home page there is a link to an example of a face that is a point cloud. I was able to play around with that file and liked my results. My question is, how can I make a point cloud of an image like that?

you would need a CMM laser scanner like a Romer or Microscribe (which we have an interface to) or Faro.

It depends on the quality and desnity of the data you require. There are very fast (and accurate) non contact scanners available.
