Wouldn't it be great if you could run a macro just by clicking on it's own icon in a VX User toolbar?

Wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to edit umpteen VX system files to get a macro to work from the toolbars of your choice?

Wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to spend half an hour on the phone explaining to your customer how to do all that? Or helping him find that elusive syntax error?

Well here's some good news then - install the attached Macro Browser-Installer .

To Install the VX Macro Installer, Extract the Contents of the zip file "VXMacInstllr.zip" into a temporary folder on your hard drive.
Double-click on "Setup.exe" and follow the prompts. This install will place a short-cut to the VX Macro Installer on your Desktop. Don't forget to delete that temporary folder.

To work with this installer, each macro needs to have it's own little install file and, of course, an icon. I have also attached a zip, "VX7_Macros.zip", full of working macros to get you started. Look out for the macros "One2One" and "RapidUnDo/RapidReDo"; they are every-day useful, written in response to customer requests. Extract the macro files to a temporary folder, then run the Macro installer. Tip: Create the temporary folder on the root of your hard drive so that it is easy to browse to - once the Macros are installed, don't forget to delete the temporary folder.

You can browse through a collection of Macros, reading a short note describing their purpose. If you find one you like, choose which User Toolbars you want it to be on, then simply add it to the Installer's Install List (shopping list?). Carry on browsing for more (up to 20 macros can be installed in one go), then when you are ready just click on the install button. The installer will update the vxCommands file and all the User Toolbar files for you, and then compile VX. That's all there is to it.

Notes

The Macro Installer requires Microsoft's .Net to be on your PC. It probably is if you have a fairly new machine or if you have installed other VX Europe programs. If you don't have it yet, you can download "dotnetfx.exe" from the VX Corp Support Web Page (Public FTP).

If you have written a macro, please share it on the forum To get it to work with the Macro Installer, you need to write an install file (this is a simple little text file, nothing difficult) and provide a 36 x 36 pixel .bmp picture for the icon. All the info you need about this comes with the installer.

The Macro Installer is now at version 1.2, required for VX v9.*

It is available on the FTP Public site, or (soon) the new downloads web page.
