Happy CADing-How to Create Football Shoes

November 07, 2018     Happy CADing with ZW3Dfootball shoes

This summer, the ZW3D team held a fun design contest to celebrate a global football carnival, the FIFA world cup.

We received many high-quality and creative works from engineers globally. Among them, the football shoe design from Remus Pacis is the most eye-catching with a beautiful shape and fashionable color. You can imagine the fierce competition on the football pitch at once when seeing the design. His work not only perfectly matches the theme of football but also shows the flexibility of ZW3D CAD.

In this design, Remus Pacis expertly used ZW3D modeling function, assembly capability and some advanced features, such as variable fillet, surface tools, and morphing function. We are happy that Remus shares his design tips for users. Let's check!

The product design starts from three view drawing. First, insert two images into sketch as front and top view. Then, follow those two images to draw the main outline of the shoe shape.

Use easy-to-use wireframe commands, add necessary curves for additional outline.

2-完整.jpg

Blend curve is one of the most helpful commands in creating support outline curve, which can easily control the continuity quality for the start and end point.

Then, creating surfaces by using three commands, Curve Mesh, FEM Patch and N-side.

3.jpg

One important thing that needs to remember is to identify which of these commands will fit on the situation. In this way, you can get the best result.

You can use split to add boundary at your surface, then remove or replace the unwanted areas of the surface.

4.jpg

When using FEM, make sure to have a good tangent surface to get a smooth part.

If generated surfaces are still no ideal, it’s better to cut the surface then create a blend curve to attain the required tangent surface.

5.jpg

Once you are able to create the surface, you can use the “Continuity Error” command to check the tangency value on each edge.

6.jpg

Or use Analyze Face Zebra mapping for easily checking the non-tangent surface.

7.jpg

Make sure to have zero open edges by sewing the created surfaces, then you can get perfect closed solid.

8.jpg

Once the part is solid, you can use the command shell to have a uniform thickness of the part.

9.jpg

Create a surface that will complete the shape of the upper part of our shoe.

10.jpg

Then trim the body by using the sheet surface.

Finally, finish other detailed design and render the design to get your own style football shoes.
