ZW3D 2014 stand alone dongle activation error
29-06-2016 06:02 . am   |   View his/her posts only
I have two seats of ZW3D 2014 each on stand-alone dongles which we share among users. I recently installed ZW3D on two new computers. One Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine and another Windows 10 Pro 64-bit machine. After the initial installs the dongle activation went smoothly on each machine. The users have been running ZW3D in demo mode while becoming familiar with ZW3D.

Recently, one user plugged in the dongle to begin using ZW3D 2014 in full licensed mode however ZW3D didn't immediately recognize the dongle. When I tried to reactivate I get the following error message after entering the activation code corresponding to the dongle.

Input is invalid, please check!

I've attached a PDF file with screen captures and descriptions my efforts so far.

Note, I’ve installed ZW3D countless times over the years.

The dongle still works perfectly on two other computers however on two new installations, I get this behavior.

I’ve tried it on both a Windows 7 64-bit machine and a Windows 10 64-bit machine.

I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling ZW3D.

The problem seems to be with the dongle driver. License manger reads the correct Product ID from the dongle however it doesn’t populate the ZW3D version (Standard in this case) in the “Licenses on This Machine” box.

Hello Jeffrey,
We still can't see your attached picture. So I didn't know what's wrong in your side. I think you can send a mail to zw3d@zwsoft.com. This will be much faster for solving your problems.

Best Regards
Kevin

Hi Jeffrey and Kevin,
May not solve anything but I recall a similar WIN 8 issue
We had a fix for that.
See attached.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for replies. I sent an e-mail to zw3d@zwsoft.com with the attachment. I don't know what's up with attachments. When I up load one it seems to go fine, no errors, however the file never appears on the forum.

Luurt, I couldn't open your attachment. I get the following error when I try to open it

Attachment file not found, please contact the administrator

I did search through your previous posts and found a file Fixed Windows8 Dongle Activation problem.zip that I could download. I tried using that version of ZwLm.dll. When I did, ZW3D 2014 wouldn't launch period. I then tried grabbing version of ZwLm.dll from a working installation of ZW3D 2014 on another machine. That launched but gave me the same error when I tried to activate the stand alone dongle license.

Note, I've also tried setting the Windows 10 compatibility mode to Windows 7 and set the Run as Administrator bit. Still no joy. Also no joy when installing on a Windows 7 64-bit Pro machine.

Note, the each machine recognizes the dongle. The Product ID is correctly read from the dongle. Not missing. It seems like when users were reporting this earlier, ZW3D didn't even read the Product ID from the dongle

I've also tried uninstalling/reinstalling on both of the new machines. Again, one running Windows 10 64-bit Pro and one running Windows 7 64-bit Pro.

Thanks for you time on this,
Jeff

Hi Jeffrey,

Very strange!
I just downloaded from the link above and it arrived in good order
You need a program called winrar ( http://www.win-rar.com/predownload.html?&L=0) or similar to unzip the archive. The download is free.
They are not very large, so if you send a mail to luurt@4cccc.nl
I send it as attachments in any compressed format you like

Best regards,
Luurt

Gentlemen,

I've made some progress. First, I dug out an install file for the initial release of ZW3D 2014 (i.e. not the current SP1 release). The version is 18.05 instead of 18.10. That in and of itself does not fix the problem however I guessed that the issue was with the content of some of the fields on the License Manager Dongle Activation screen. I've posted two JPG's (since a PDF file didn't work). See

ZW3D Dongle Activation.jpg

The fields in this screen (Name, Country, State/Provence) must get populated from the dongle when it's plugged in. Note, that the State/Provence field contains the default text, Select State/Provence. It's greyed out and can't be edited. When I hit activate I get the error

ZW3D Dongle Activation Error.jpg

Input is invalid, please check!

State/Provence is marked as a required field so I thought that could be the source of the error. Unfortunately, I couldn't edit it.

I did find out however that it I didn't first plug in the dongle I could navigate to the Dongle Activation screen and fill out all the screens. I then clicked on Activate and got an error that said the dongle needed to be plugged in. I then clicked on Finish which launch ZW3D 2014 in trail mode. Then, plugged in the dongle and launched the License Manager all without closing ZW3D. This time when I get to the dongle activation page the State/Provence screen the value for State/Provence is "New Jersey". Now when I hit activate I get an "Activation Successful" reply. I click OK. At this point ZW3D seems to hang however when I close and restart I'm running in licensed mode.

Note, I made this very suspect procedure work on both the Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines with ZW3D 2014 version 18.05. I haven't quite figured out the correct dance moves for version 18.05 (SP1).

My guess is that the State/Province data is not stored correctly on my dongle. In the past I could write new license codes to the dongle using a utility buitlt into VX (We've been using VX since version 6). Is there similar utility now that would allow me to correct the information on my dongle? Does any of this suggest another way to proceed?

Thanks,
