How to Create a Block

Blocks are a powerful tool that allows you to group several objects into a single, reusable entity. This is especially useful when you need to use the same objects multiple times across your drawing, whether for design consistency, efficiency, or simplification. Creating a block can significantly improve your workflow and help keep your drawings organized.

Issue:

Want to create block, but don't find the right way to make it function.

Solution:

Creating a block is simple once you understand the steps and commands involved. Follow these instructions to create your own block and make your design process more efficient.

Step 1: Open the file or draw your wanted shapes in your computer first.

Before creating a block, you need to have the objects ready in your drawing. You can either open an existing drawing or draw the shapes you need. Make sure the objects you want to include in the block are correctly placed and aligned.

Step 2: Type "BLOCK" in the command line.

Once your objects are ready, type "BLOCK" in the command line and press Enter. This will open the [Block Definition] dialog box, where you will set up the parameters for your block.

In the [Block Definition] dialog box, you will need to provide the following information:

Name of the Block: Give your block a meaningful name. This name will be used to identify the block when you insert it later in your drawing.

Base Point: The base point is the insertion point of the block. To set this, click the button [Pick base point] and choose the point in your drawing that will act as the reference for the block's positioning.

Step 3 : Select the objects to create the block.

After setting the base point, click the [Select entities] button in the dialog box. This will minimize the [Block Definition] dialog and allow you to select the objects you want to combine into a block.

Once you’ve selected the objects, press Enter to confirm your selection. The [Block Definition] dialog box will reappear. At this point, click OK to save the block. When the block is created, you can use it as a single entity. This can save time when inserting the same set of objects multiple times in your drawing.

Tips:

1. After joining several objects into one block, they become a whole entity.

If you need to modify the block later, you can use the BEDIT command to open the block editor and make changes.

2. The command INSERT will help you to insert the block you have created anywhere you want.

3. Use the command WBLOCK to customize file saving path.

Here’s how to do it:

● Type WBLOCK in the command line and press Enter.

● In the [Save Block to Disk] dialog box, click [Select point] first, then choose the base point for the block.

Select the entities you want to save and click OK.

● Choose the saving path, then click OK to save your block file.
