Learn why a block changes shape when copied into another ZWCAD drawing and how to resolve this naming conflict using the RENAME command.
Table of Contents
When copying a block from one drawing to another, the shape of the block changes.
This is because when both drawings contain blocks with the same name, the copied block will be replaced by the block definition in the target drawing, so the block will change.
1. Rename the blocks with the same name
Click the menu Format → Rename (or enter the RENAME command) to open the Rename dialog box, select Name Object → Block, select the block to be renamed, input a new block name, and click OK to change the block name.

2. Rename the block before copying, and it will remain unchanged.
A block changing its shape during a cross-drawing copy is a direct result of a naming conflict, where the destination drawing's existing definition takes precedence. By using the RENAME command to give your block a unique identity before performing the copy operation, you can prevent this automatic replacement and ensure your geometric shapes remain perfectly consistent across different project files.
