Managing layer visibility is crucial when working with CAD software, especially across multiple viewports. This guide explains how to hide or show layers in all viewports and in one viwewport only to enhance workflow efficiency and maintain clear drawings.
Hiding and showing layers in all viewports allows for better control over the visibility of elements, improving clarity and focus in different views. This technique enhances workflow efficiency, especially when dealing with complex drawings or presentations. Then let's look at how to use it without efforts.
Input the command LAYER→find the button looks like bulb representing On→Turn on/Turn off the button to make the chosen layer visible or invisible. Then you will find the layer will show up or disappear in all layers.

Bonus tip: Hide Command: LAYFRZ
The command LAYFRZ enables you to freeze the layer in all viewports only in three steps: type the command LAYFRZ → Select objects on the layer to be frozen→Press Enter to finish the steps.

In your process of design, have you ever met this kind of situation: you want to hide a layer in certain viewport and show up it in other viewport so that you can get a clear view of the main elements in drawings, but the method mentioned above can only turn off the layer in all viewports. For the convience of design or presentation, hiding and showing layers in certain viewports are always needed, so is there a way to fix it ?
The answer to this question is right in front of us. A solution in ZWCAD’s Layer Properties Manager dialog box is named “Viewport Freeze.” Let’s have a look at how it works through the following steps.
Step 1:
Open a drawing with layouts.
Step 2:
Click a layout tab, and then double-click inside a viewport to activate it.
Step 3:
Enter the LAYER command to open the Layer Properties Manager.

Step 4:
Select the layer that you need to hide, and then click the icon in the Viewport Freeze column.

In the default settings,Viewport Freeze is found after the New Viewport Freeze column. If you need to use it frequently, you can drag it to the first few columns to achieve your customization.
Step 5:
Click OK and then exit the Layer Properties Manager dialog box.
With the change in settings, "PM-Dimensions" will be invisible in Layout 1 but still show up in other two viewports: Model and Layout 2.

This solution is very useful in many ways. For example, there is a 3D model with four viewports and one of them showing the isometric view. If you don’t want dimensions in the isometric viewport, you can hide them easily by clicking “Viewport Freeze” for the layers holding the dimensions.
Through the steps above, you can hide a specific layer in one viewport and make it visible in others. With the bonus tip, freezing your layers would not be a hard thing. This useful technique is not only easy to achieve in ZWCAD, but help you speed up your workflow.
