Bumhan Vina Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. formerly known as Doosan Vina Hai Phong, is a wholly foreign-owned enterprise specializing in the design, fabrication, and installation of non-standard steel structures for industrial applications.

With more than 30 years of development, Bumhan Vina Heavy Industries has established itself as a pioneer in Vietnam’s heavy industry sector. The company was among the first to achieve ISO 9001 certification and ASME Stamps (U, U2, S), setting high standards for quality and reliability in Northern Vietnam.

Over the years, Bumhan Vina Heavy Industries has delivered numerous large-scale projects, including Boilers, Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), steel structures, and industrial infrastructure. Many of these projects are manufactured at two workshops located in Hai Phong: Hong Bang Workshop and Nam Dinh Vu Workshop, covering dozens of hectares with total investments worth hundreds of millions of USD. With modern equipment and a skilled engineering team, Bumhan Vina Heavy Industries proudly achieves a production capacity of 25,000 tons of steel structures per year and exports to more than 47 countries worldwide.

When Scale Creates New Challenges

As a large enterprise with a steady pipeline of projects, Bumhan Vina Heavy Industries relies heavily on 2D CAD drawings for design coordination and production. Dozens of engineers work simultaneously on drawings that are frequently updated to reflect design changes.

Bumhan Vina Heavy Industries needed a CAD solution that could support a large number of users, offer a perpetual license instead of annual subscriptions, and integrate seamlessly with Tekla, the 3D modeling software used for steel structures. Compatibility with existing automation tools such as AutoLISP and VBA was also essential.

In 2023, Bumhan Vina Heavy Industries selected ZWCAD as the standard CAD platform for its Design and Production Departments, replacing AutoCAD.

A Smooth Transition for Engineers

 

For engineers at BVHI, adopting ZWCAD required little adjustment.

“ZWCAD’s drawing tools are completely similar to other CAD software, so we hardly spent any time relearning,” said Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Design Department Leader. “What makes a real difference is the Smart Compare feature, which is truly useful in our daily work.”

Smart Compare allows engineers to visually compare different versions of a drawing and instantly identify changes in beam dimensions, columns, bolt connections, and welds through color highlights. This significantly improves drawing accuracy and reduces the risk of overlooked modifications.

 

 

Working Smarter on Large Projects

BVHI engineers use Tekla to create detailed 3D models of steel and reinforced concrete structures. These models are then exported as 2D drawings for editing and finalization in ZWCAD. At this stage, efficiency and accuracy are critical.

Another feature that quickly proved its value was Smart Plot.

“The projects Bumhan undertakes are large-scale, and every day we have to print hundreds of detailed drawings,” said engineer Dang Minh Tuan. “Smart Plot helps me print batches of files without having to select paper sizes for each one.”

By automatically detecting drawing frames and choosing the appropriate paper size, Smart Plot saves time and reduces printing errors, helping teams stay productive even under tight schedules.
