How to Activate ZW3D with a Floating License

In team or organizational settings where multiple designers or engineers need access to ZW3D, managing individual licenses for each workstation can be costly and inefficient.

A floating license provides a practical solution in scenarios where users do not need to run the software simultaneously. By allowing licenses to be shared across a network, companies can ensure that every team member has access to ZW3D when needed, while optimizing software costs and simplifying license management.

What is a Floating License

A floating license is a network-based licensing model that allows multiple users to share a limited number of software licenses within the same network. Instead of assigning the license to a specific computer or individual user, the license is installed and managed on a central license server.

When a user launches ZW3D, the software automatically requests an available license from the license server. If a license is available, the user can start using the software. Once the user exits ZW3D, the license is returned to the server and becomes available for other users.

This licensing model is particularly suitable for teams and organizations where multiple users need access to the software but do not use it at the same time. By sharing licenses across the network, floating licensing helps companies reduce costs while maintaining flexible access to ZW3D.

How to Activate a ZW3D Floating License

In a team or networked environment, ensuring smooth access to ZW3D for all users is essential for efficient workflow.

Before you start activating a floating license on your client computer, it is important to ensure that the license on the server computer has been properly activated and that the network environment is correctly configured.

Additionally, the client computer must be able to connect to the server to request and use the license.

Once these conditions are met, follow the steps below to activate ZW3D using a floating license.

Step 1: Open License Manager.

Open License Manager

Step 2: Click Activate License.

Step 3: Click Request a Floating License, then enter the Server Name/IP and the corresponding Port Number. (Please note that the Server IP address and Port Number should be obtained from your company's IT personnel.)

Note:

Server Name/IP: Enter the computer name or IP address of the network license server.

Port: Optional. If left empty, the default port range is 27000–27009. It can be modified to other values if needed.

Click Request a Floating License, then enter the Server Name/IP and the corresponding Port Number.

Conclusion

Activating ZW3D with a floating license enables flexible and cost-effective software use for teams and organizations. By setting up a central license server and connecting client computers properly, users can easily access ZW3D without requiring a separate license for each workstation. Following the steps in this guide ensures a smooth activation process and maximizes the efficiency of your software resources.
