This guide will walk you through the process of obtaining and activating a ZWCAD Network License using the floating license method. Floating licenses are a flexible way to manage your software, dynamically allocating a license to a user when needed, and then retrieving it when the user becomes idle. This ensures you get the most out of your limited license resources.
Before we begin, it's important to understand the two main types of ZWCAD licenses:
· Stand-alone License: A single license for a single computer.
· Network License: Licenses are managed by a central server and can be shared among multiple users.
And There are two ways to use a Network License: Floating Licensing and Borrowing Licensing.
This tutorial focuses on the floating method, which requires a continuous connection to your license server.
To activate a ZWCAD client, your license server must be properly set up and activated.
Important Note:
The ZWSOFT Network License Manager must be installed and activated on your designated server. The server uses a network Activation ID to get its authorization. You cannot activate a client license until the server is already active and running.
Once the license server is activated and running, you can follow these steps to get a floating license for your ZWCAD workstation.
Step 1: Open the License Manager
Click Start → All Programs → ZWSOFT → ZWCAD [version] → License Manager to open the ZWCAD License Manager dialog box.
Step 2: Start the Activation Process
In the License Manager, click the Activate License button to open the "Activate ZWCAD License" page.
Step 3: Request a Floating License
From the list on the left, click Request a Floating License. This will bring up the "Floating License-Soft Key" page.
Step 4: Connect to the Server
Enter the IP Address or Server Name of your license server in the designated field.
Tip:
You can find the correct server IP address or name in the Network License Configuration section under the System Settings tab on your license server.
Step 5: Query and Select a License
Click the Query button. The system will display all available licenses on the server. You can expand the list and select the specific license you need.

Note on Redundant Servers:
If your network uses a redundant server mode, click Configure only instead of Query. Then, manually enter the names or LAN IP addresses of the servers, separated by semicolons (;). The query function is not supported in this mode.
Step 6: Activate Your Product
Once you have selected an available license, click Activate to complete the activation process. ZWCAD will now be authorized and ready to use.
