How to Borrow a ZWCAD Network License

Following our previous guide on floating licenses, this tutorial will show you how to use a borrowing license. This method is ideal for users who need to use ZWCAD while disconnected from the company network, such as when working from home or traveling.

What is a Borrowing License?

Unlike a floating license that requires a constant connection to the server, a borrowing license allows a workstation to "check out" a license from the server for a specific period of time. The workstation then behaves as if it has a stand-alone license and can function completely offline.

Keep in mind that while a license is borrowed, it is occupied by your workstation and will not be available for other users on the network until it expires or is manually returned.

Why Borrow a ZWCAD License?

A borrowing license is perfect for users who need access to ZWCAD without a constant internet connection. This is especially useful for remote workers or those who travel frequently.

For example, if you need to work from home or on a plane, you can borrow a license before disconnecting from the network and continue using ZWCAD without interruptions.

Additionally, the borrowing feature allows you to have a more flexible working environment, ensuring you don’t face delays or obstacles that can occur when using a floating license, which requires an active network connection.

Step-by-Step Guide to Borrowing a License

Before you begin, ensure that your ZWSOFT Network License Manager is installed and activated on your server.

Step 1: Open the License Manager

Click Start → All Programs → ZWSOFT → ZWCAD [version] → License Manager to open the ZWCAD License Manager dialog box.

Step 2: Start the Activation Process

In the License Manager, click the Activate License button to open the "Activate ZWCAD License" page.

Step 3: Access the Borrowing Page

Click Borrow a License from the activation list to open the "Borrowed License-Soft Key" page.

Step 4: Enter Server Information

Fill in the following details:

· License Server IP Address/Server name: Enter the name or LAN IP of your license server.

· Port: Use the default value 27000.

Step 5: Query and Select a License

Click the Query button. All valid licenses on the server will be displayed. The license with the highest priority will be shown first. If you need a different license, simply expand the list to select it.

Step 6: Set the Expiration and Activate

After selecting a license, fill in the Valid Thru date or click one of the quick-set options (30 Days, 90 Days, or 180 Days).

Then, click the Activate button to complete the process. The license will be successfully borrowed, and you can now use ZWCAD offline for the specified duration.

Important Note:

Expiration Alerts: If your borrowed license is approaching its rental limit (e.g., less than 10 days remaining), the system will display a prompt when you start ZWCAD, reminding you of the remaining days.

Return the License Early: If you no longer need the license before the expiration date, you can return it early to make it available for other users. This can be done through the License Manager interface.

Network Connection Required for Borrowing: While you can use the borrowed license offline once it is activated, the borrowing process itself requires an active network connection. Make sure to complete the borrowing process before going offline.

Common Issues and Solutions

Problem: Unable to Borrow License

Solution: Ensure that the ZWSOFT License Server is running and properly configured. Double-check that your computer is connected to the same local network as the server. If you still experience issues, consult with your IT administrator to ensure that no firewall or network restrictions are preventing access to the server.

Problem: License Not Displaying in the Query List

Solution: This can happen if the server doesn’t have available licenses or if the server IP address was entered incorrectly. Verify the server details and check the server's license status to ensure licenses are available for borrowing.

Problem: License Expired or Returned Automatically

Solution: If your borrowed license expires or is returned prematurely, you may need to re-borrow it. Ensure you check the expiration date before disconnecting, and if necessary, extend the borrowing period before your offline work begins.

Conclusion

Borrowing a ZWCAD network license provides a convenient solution for users who need offline access to the software. By following the step-by-step guide above, you can quickly check out a license from your server and use ZWCAD without the need for an internet connection.
