ZWCAD eases the "burden" of layers with Layer Merge

ZWCAD has been committed to providing customers with cost-effective integrated CAD / CAM solutions. It really cares about the needs of CAD users. Its user-friendly features solve many problems for users and improve their work efficiency significantly. Today let me introduce one of the convenient features in the ET(Express tools) for managing layers, Layer Merge.

(Figure I)

Why shall we mention about how to use this feature? In fact, many CAD software users have encountered this problem: In the designing works, a huge size general plan is not finished by one person. Usually speaking, each designer or department is responsible for one part of the design. Finally, those drawings are assembled together. Then, some the problems show up. As you know, people set the layers before any drawing. The layer settings for each person are definitely not the same. We will find that there are a lot of duplicate layers in the assembled general plan. In fact, those layers are of the same type of setting.

It is a headache for lots of CAD designers. Actually, there are only a few types of lines. However, it turns out a dozen or even hundreds of layers. If we modify each line manually, most of the time will be definitely not for product design, but wasting in layer management.

Let’s take an example to explain how to solve this headache with our layer Merge.

Figure II is showing a drawing for pipelines. We can see that there are dozens of layers, but we just need a few of them for the drawing.

(Figure II)

We will show how to unify the white lines as an example.
Step 1: draw one line in each white layer. (Figure III)

(Figure III)

For the lines in this drawing, each of them is on different layer. That means we should have the same number of lines as the number of duplicate white layers.

Step 2: We can merge layers now. First, click on the “Merge Layer” command. It shows information as in Figure IV. Then select all lines one by one and leave the last one unselected (Its layer named as “坐标”.). When you select one of the lines, the rest of them in the same layer are automatically selected. In other words, selecting line is equivalent to selecting the layer. After the selection, press Enter. It will prompt up information as shown in Figure V.

At this time, we have just left a piece of unselected line (That means the compass layer). A notice pops up as shown in Figure VI.

 (Figure IV, V, VI)

Enter "Y". As shown in Figure VII about the drop-down menu of layers, all white layers are automatically merged into the "坐标" layer.

Being repeated operations as above, other duplicate layers can be merged as well. At the same time, with the help of "Purge" command, we can properly organize all the layers.

After above operations, dazzling layers are integrated into a few. As shown in Figure VIII, we can rename the new layers to finish this fast layer management.

After a few simple steps, the drawing with complicated layers became immediately clear. Working with the well-organized layers, your design efficiency will be definitely improved. Come and try Layer Merge to eases the "burden" now.
