ZW3D Tips on Shaft Design: Flexible and Automatical Thread Ending in ZW3D

As for 3D product designers, they often encounter some shaft parts with thread, especially in mechanical and home appliance industries. Usually, the threads need an ending to meet the actually demand and improve the visual aesthetics. But thread endings are achieved by faces and lines, this process is complicated with unnatural results, while we can easily realize thread ending through the thread function in ZW3D.

Now, let’s see how ZW3D do this:


step 1: Draw the shaft

Draw the shaft profile according to the sketch below.

step 2: Create the main shaft through revolving the sketch.

step 3: Draw the sketch of thread cross section

In the following picture, you can see the thread ending is reaching the real ending visual effect.

step 5: Create the other side by rotate copy, and add the two parts by Boolean operation. Then we get the finial shaft like below.
